Cobh Family Resource Centre manages the Care & Repair Service for Cobh, in conjunction with Age Action. We use a pool of trustworthy, local handymen and women to carry out small DIY and repair jobs for older people, aged 50 yrs or over in the community. The FREE programme is delivered by Age Action offices in city areas and by various community groups throughout Ireland, such as Cobh FRC.
Typical jobs include minor painting, changing plugs and fuses, fixing taps, minor gardening, hanging pictures and curtains and so on. Our volunteers will always check your smoke alarms while they are visiting to make sure everything is safe and in working order. In the event that a job is beyond the ability of our volunteers, or is too big, we will then try to direct you to a trustworthy trades¬person as part of our trade referral service.
Unfortunately, older people are sometimes the subject of fraud and dishonesty by rogue tradespeople who take advantage. However, any professional tradesperson recommended through our trade referral service has been recommended as reliable, respectful and reasonable in terms of pricing and fees, and has agreed to Age Action policies and practices.
All our volunteers are trained by Age Action and are Garda vetted. Volunteers only visit people’s homes in pairs and will always be wearing Age Action identification. Call Nickie at Cobh Family Resource Centre to find out more or to arrange a repair job on 021 481 6103.
