Cobh Family Resource Centre has a qualified Parents Plus facilitator for the mid years (6-12yrs) and the Teenage Programme (13-18yrs) who is supported by an experienced co-facilitator Bernadette Murphy to facilitate the courses in our centre.
The Parent’s Plus Programme was developed by Dr John Sharry and Prof Carol Fitzpatrick, and is evidence based, supported by significant research showing the courses to be effective in reducing behaviour problems, parental stress and increasing parenting confidence.
The focus of the Parents Plus Programme is on finding solutions to problems and creating more effective ways of relating to children. The overall aim of the course is to help parents not only solve discipline and other childhood problems, but also for parents to develop closer and more satisfying relationships with their children.
Here’s what a few of our previous participants have said about the programme:
“It has given me back my confidence and a positive feeling to pass on to my children.”
“It has made me aware that modifying my own behaviour & approach is the best way of modifying my child’s behaviour…..the course definitely met my expectations.”
“Made me stop and think that I’m the parent.”
“The course has increased my confidence, patience and I enjoy parenting more.”
Following very positive feedback from previous years we are delighted to be running another Parents Plus Mid Years programme, commencing in Autumn 2018. This will take place between 7-9pm. The adolescents course is for parents of children aged around 6-11 yrs of age. Topics covered on the course include:
